Indian Air Force Conducts Extensive Aerial Firefighting Operation Over Kasauli Forest Blaze in Himachal Pradesh

The fire reportedly broke out around 3:00 pm on Tuesday in the wooded terrain of Kasauli and expanded quickly due to the region’s steep geography and dry seasonal conditions. The difficult terrain significantly restricted ground access, compelling authorities to deploy air assets for effective containment of the blaze.

The Indian Air Force released footage showing helicopters engaged in continuous firefighting sorties over the affected zones. The aircraft were equipped with Bambi bucket systems, which are collapsible containers suspended beneath helicopters and used to collect and discharge large volumes of water or fire-retardant material over active fire lines.

According to official communication shared with the video, the Indian Air Force has been engaged in uninterrupted firefighting operations in Kasauli since 5:00 pm on Tuesday, continuing through night hours in coordination with civil authorities. The helicopters carried out precision water-dropping missions aimed at slowing the spread of the fire and supporting ground-based firefighting teams operating in inaccessible areas.

The water used in the operations was lifted from Sukhna Lake, from where repeated sorties were conducted into the fire-affected forest zones. In more than 15 operational shuttles, the helicopters dropped over 40,000 litres of water on the active fire front, significantly assisting containment efforts.

Officials confirmed that the sustained aerial intervention helped prevent the fire from advancing deeper into vulnerable forest regions. The coordinated response between air and ground units played a critical role in controlling the intensity of the blaze under challenging environmental and topographical conditions.

Authorities also confirmed that all personnel involved in the operation, along with all deployed equipment, remained safe throughout the mission. No injuries or loss of life were reported during the firefighting efforts.

The Indian Air Force emphasized that its crew remained steadfast in continuing operations despite difficult flying conditions over rugged mountainous terrain and low visibility during extended sorties.

Kasauli and surrounding areas are known to be highly susceptible to forest fires during dry weather conditions. The steep slopes and dense vegetation often make ground-based firefighting operations difficult, increasing dependence on aerial firefighting support to reach otherwise inaccessible fire zones.

The ongoing operation drew public attention on social media, where viewers expressed appreciation for the efforts of the armed forces.
